History of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin

Wisconsin Rapids is the county seat of Wood County. The city was formerly known as 'Adahwahgam,' which meant two-sided rapids until European settlers began to settle in 1834 and changed its name later on after 1920 when it became Wisconsin's largest metropolis between Madison unincorporated areas outside Chicago during that period due mainly because there were many riverside environments suitable for development where manufactures could thrive under protection from cheap foreign labor through high tariffs which led them towards becoming one economic engine driving America’s manufacturing sector into preeminent position globally by midcentury.

The first settlers in Wisconsin Rapids were French-Canadian loggers who arrived in the area in 1834 looking for work in the booming timber industry. The city was officially founded in 1856, and its name changed to Wisconsin Rapids in 1920. The city grew rapidly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries thanks to the timber industry.
