History of Lakeville, Minnesota
The City of Lakeville was initially a township organized on March 6, 1858. The area was then known as Rich Valley Township. The first settlers arrived in the area in 1852.
In 1858, the township held its first election. The first supervisor was elected, and three townships were organized: Rich Valley, Amboy, and Empire. Rich Valley Township consisted of the present-day cities of Lakeville and Burnsville.
