History of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin

Beaver Dam is a town in Dodge County, WI. The name of the site where it's located translates to "beaver’s dam" because there were once many Beaver Dams here that could be used for fishing by Native Americans who lived on these lands before European colonization. They had sacred springs, which are currently found within Swan Park.

While not as old or large as some other Wisconsin towns like Madison (founded 1836), and Fond du Lac (1846), the Winnebago Warrior tribe prefers this location due to its proximity between two rivers - Dollar Bayou & Kickapoo River Systems - offering access to game animals such as Beavers, otters, minks, deer, bears & turkeys.

Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, was born in 1856 when the Milwaukee Railroad came to town. This small city grew rapidly into an industrial center with many significant enhancements made during its time as one of America’s wealthiest cities - especially for iron mining companies like the Malleable Iron Range Company, which were founded just before World War I started and employed hundreds of people! Notable natives include movie stars Brian Donlevy (1889-1972), who starred alongside Fred MacMurray--both from Beaver Dam backgrounds.

The racial makeup of the city was 96.5% White, 0.6% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.1% of the population.

There were 6,866 households, of which 32.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% were married couples living together, 10.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.5% were non-families.
