History of Savage, Minnesota
Savage, Minnesota, is a city in Scott County, Minnesota. The population was 26,911 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis−Saint Paul metropolitan area.
European Americans first settled in Savage in the 1850s and 1860s near present-day Murphy's Landing on the south side of the Minnesota River. It was named for Maria Savage, a teacher at a local Mission school. The city was incorporated in 1889. By 1900, the village had grown to include 400 residents. In the early 20th century, Savage developed as an agricultural community and added several flour mills and grain elevators. A major fire in 1916 destroyed much of the original business district. The city rebuilt and continued to grow in the following decades.
In the 1970s, Savage became a bedroom community for the metropolitan area. The city has experienced significant commercial and residential development since then. It is now one of the fastest-growing communities in Minnesota.

The city's elevation is 801 feet (244 m).
Savage is part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Burnsville and Eagan border the city to the north, Prior Lake to the south, Shakopee to the southwest, and Bloomington to the northeast.
