History of Rogers, Minnesota
Rogers is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 8,597 at the 2010 census. The city is bordered by the cities of Elk River and Corcoran. Rogers is considered a north suburb of the Twin Cities metro area. It is part of the Northwest Hennepin Human Services and Health Care District (NOC), which serves the mental health needs of residents of northwest Hennepin County.
The first settlers in Rogers were French-Canadian fur traders who arrived in the early 1800s. They established trading posts along the Mississippi and Crow Rivers. By 1837, the United States had completed its purchase of all Indian lands east of the Mississippi River under the Treaty of Washington. The first Euro-American settlers arrived in present-day Hassan Township in 1854, led by John C. Atherton; They claimed their land purchases under the Homestead Act. In 1860, Hassan Township was organized; it included all or parts of the present-day cities of Rogers, Dayton, and Otsego.
The hamlet of Hassan was platted in 1881 along the eastern shore of Rogers Lake (now Crystal Lake) and named for Hassan, an early Native American name for the Mississippi River. The village of Rogers Station was platted in 1882 on the Great Northern Railway near present-day 141st Avenue and Main Street; it was named for C. W. Rogers, a railroad official. In 1889, the two villages merged to form the Village of Rogers.
The City of Rogers was incorporated on March 10, 1915. The city expanded its borders in 1918 with an annexation on the west side of town.

As of the census of 2010, there were 8,597 people, 2,945 households, and 1,929 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,527.3 inhabitants per square mile (589.7/km2). There were 3,070 housing units at an average density of 546.1 per square mile (210.6/km2). The city's racial makeup was 84.8% White, 4.0% African American, 0.4% Native American, 5.4% Asian American, 2.0% other races, and 3.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.6% of the population.
There were 2,945 households, of which 39.6% had children under t8 living with them, 57.3% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 5.1% had a male householder with no wife current, 29.4% were non-families. 21.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.92, and the average family size was 3.42.
