History of Lino Lakes, Minnesota
The town of Lino Lakes, Minnesota, was initially called "Lincolns" after President Abraham Lincoln. The origin of this name is unknown, but it had to be changed because there were already towns with that name all over America. In 1955 they incorporated as a village and surrounded themselves by 21 thousand acres (it used up most of the original Centerville township).
When the first residents in Centerville Townships voted to incorporate, they did so with one goal firmly embedded: protecting their boundaries. The area consisted of three communities - Swedish settlements south and west near Lake Michigan; French villages east along decode Creek Valley- which all comprised just under 300 people living on 36 square miles that included everything from farms & fields down to small-town life!
The Lino Lakes City Council has become the first in Minnesota to establish an official language, English. The resolution states that all documents prepared by this city will be inpatient and not translated into any other languages because it's unnecessary for their expenses related to translation services.
