History of Hastings, Minnesota
The people of Hastings had to deal with the challenging natural resources their location at a river junction presented. The St Croix and Mississippi Rivers provided power for mills, while falls on nearby rivers helped make it possible to ship goods across these waterways by boat or raft as well! With such deep drafts in this area, there were bridges made from all sorts of materials - some covered so they could be walked upon during dry seasons without getting wet feet; others designed more like an iron railway bridge than anything else we know today--but each was truly one-of-kind just like our town itself.
In the 1800s, Minnesota was still a young territory, and many of its towns were relatively new. The first permanent settlers in what is now known as Hastings arrived in 1833, just two years after the US government opened up the area for settlement. These settlers were looking for good farmland and an opportunity to start fresh--and they found it along the banks of the Mississippi River.
By the early 1850s, there were 500 residents living in Hastings. The town was officially incorporated in 1857, making it one of the first cities in Minnesota. Today, the city is home to more than 22,000 people.
