History of Golden Valley, Minnesota
In the early 1800s, settlers began to move into the area that is now Golden Valley. The land was originally part of the Dakota Territory, but in 1849 it became part of the US as part of the Minnesota Territory. The first settlers built their homes along the banks of Gold Creek, which was named for the gold nuggets often found in its waters.
