History of Crystal, Minnesota
In 1858, the county board granted three tiers of sections (24 adjacent) to form Farmersville; however, it was never organized. In May 1860, Minnesota became a state. Then two more parts were added in 1862, making five whole townships that year - Brooklyn on Hennepin's north side got one addition while Minneapolis gained another setback from their current location by about 4 miles.
The City of Minneapolis was expanding at a rapid pace, and it grew into what is now known as the Camden neighborhood. In 1856 after being organized for just 14 years since its establishment in 1854 with an initial population count estimated at around 1000 people living there then; within 20+ years, they had grown exponentially due to steady immigration from Europe, which helped fuel industry growth along rivers like The Mississippi River.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.5% of the population.
There were 9,177 households, of which 28.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 40.0% were non-families

The per capita income for the city was $30,474. About 5.2% of families and 8.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.8% of those under age 18 and 8.1% of those age 65 or over.
