History of Baraboo, Wisconsin
Baraboo's first settlers came in 1838, attracted by the area's potential for development. The city is near the Wisconsin River, making it a perfect spot for businesses and homes. By 1846, Baraboo had become the county seat, and by 1866, it had become an official village.
Baraboo is most often known as “Circus City” for several reasons. In 1884, the young Ringling Brothers gave their first official circus performance. They rapidly grew successful and eventually joined forces with the Barnum & Bailey show, giving rise to the famous circus name.
